It is strange what doesn’t matter when we are touched by the possibility of the loss of life. Last year my grandmother was close to death and we dropped social engagements and other commitments to go visit her. She appreciated our well wishes and we all enjoyed some awkward but special moments together.
She got past that little scare and has recovered almost completely. Now, almost a year later, it seems that it was so long ago. At the time we were prepared to drop everything and support her and my own mother in their time of need.
Sometimes it is like we are fine weather strangers and stormy weather friends. When all is going smoothly we don’t take the time to make time for our loved ones.
Don’t leave it until the funeral to tell your family, friends and other relatives how much they mean to you. Write a letter/email, make a phone call, go and visit them. Whatever you do, make the time today to make a difference tomorrow.
