Google Page Rank - Update

March 5, 2008 – 1:00 am

It seems that my Google PR indicator was having a bad couple of days. The site, unlockinglimitations.com, was sitting on PR 6/10 for a couple of days according to the indicator in my Firefox browser. After a few friends checked it out and saw that it was not showing up with the same page rank on their browsers I re-installed the PR indicator and it settled back down to normal.

We had not done anything to manipulate Google rankings and nor would I. It just goes to show that it is probably best to not place too much emphasis on Google ranking factors in the early days of building a site. Rather, it is more important to continue building good quality pages with content that your visitors are looking for.

The old adage of “build it and they will come” works on the web but only if you pay attention to your choice of keywords, page title and description. These are a few of the on-page ranking criteria used by search engines to decide what your page/site is about and therefore when to offer it to people searching for that keyword.
