An important point to consider when setting up a website, whether you will download a template or you’re going to design your own (not recommended unless you have real talent), is how your website will appear to the rest of the world. It might look great in your browser but appear to be somewhat garbled in another browser.
Not everyone uses the same browser as you. I prefer Firefox. It is nothing technical, just a personal preference. In fact, most of the world still uses Internet Explorer with Firefox coming in 2nd. In November 2007, the number of users*, expressed as a percentage was something like this:
| Internet Explorer (IE5, IE6, IE7) | 56.2% |
| Firefox | 36.3% |
| Mozilla | 1.2% |
| Safari | 1.8% |
| Opera | 1.8% |
| Others | 2.7% |

Based on the above statistics, you owe it to your visitors to ensure that your website looks fine in at least those browsers listed in the table above.
How do you do this? I found a great free tool to preview your website in a wide range of browsers. It is called browsershots.org and should be in every website owner’s tool-bag. It allows you to preview your site in many different browsers and then download the screen-shots for a closer look.
